3 Big Success and Achievement Sapping Mistakes – Mistake #1: Letting the past dictate your future

Success and Past Experiences

In the first of three follow up posts about the achievement sapping mistakes that most people make, we look at Mistake #1: To let the past dictate our future.

Why letting the past dictate our future can kill your achievement?

Look back on your life and you will see a pattern that looks like a dolphin surfing through the waves, with high points and low points. I know when I look back over my life, that’s definitely the case.

Our mind works in mysterious ways and distorts our memories over time to the point that we believe we experienced an event, even though we were never there. So depending on your MindSet at this point, you may believe that everything has been very positive or very negative in your past. It is all too easy let those low points dictate your belief, your actions and ultimately your results whereas in reality they are often a distortion of the true events.

What to do instead?

Take yourself through a process of looking at the past and identify who or what you are being when you are performing at your very best. Look at the times when you were on form and being your superstar self so that you can easily repeat that behaviour and create the success you want and deserve.
